Using Weekdays for Planning and Deadlines
The weekday of a date changes what that date means in practice. A statutory deadline landing on a Sunday is usually not the same as one landing on a Tuesday, and nobody can tell which without calculating it.

Try the Day of the Week CalculatorNotice Periods
Most notice periods are stated in days rather than weeks, and 30 days is 4 weeks and 2 days. Whether the resulting last day falls on a weekend depends entirely on the start weekday, so the weekday is what decides whether the notice is effective.
Court and Filing Dates
Courts and registries publish rules about what happens when a deadline falls on a weekend or public holiday. Typically the deadline moves to the next working day, but that rule can only be applied once the weekday of the original date is known.
Contract Expiry Dates
A contract that expires on a Sunday does not become unenforceable on Sunday. Renewal windows measured in days from a start date need the weekday to determine whether the window gives a usable number of working days.
Shift Rotas
A repeating shift pattern advances the weekday by the number of days in each rotation. Checking the weekday of the first and last shift of a cycle catches rota errors that are easy to introduce and hard to spot.
Working Day Calculations
Counting business days between two dates requires knowing which dates fall on weekends and holidays. Getting the weekday wrong for one date shifts the entire count by a day.
Proving a Date in a Dispute
Where a diary entry or a document refers to a day of the week, being able to confirm the actual weekday for that date is the first step in checking whether the entry is consistent.
Worked Example
A 30 day notice given on a Tuesday ends 4 weeks and 2 days later, which is a Thursday. Given on a Saturday it ends the following Monday, leaving no working day in between.
