Tips & Best Practices

  • Leading zeros are never significant. They are just placeholders.
  • Trailing zeros after a decimal point are always significant (45.00 has 4 sig figs).
  • When adding or subtracting, round to the least precise decimal place. When multiplying or dividing, round to the least number of sig figs.
