What Is the Fuel Cost Calculator?

A fuel cost calculator helps you estimate the total cost of fuel for any trip. Enter your distance, vehicle fuel efficiency, and current fuel price to get an instant cost estimate.

The Formula

Gallons used = Distance (miles) / MPG. Total Cost = Gallons x Price per Gallon. For metric: Liters used = (Distance (km) / 100) x L/100km. Cost = Liters x Price per Liter.

Example

Driving 350 miles from Boston to Baltimore in an SUV at 22 MPG with gas at $3.60 per gallon uses 15.9 gallons costing $57.24. A 100-mile commute at 25 MPG with $3.50 gas costs $14.00, but doubles to $28.00 if your vehicle gets only 12.5 MPG in stop-and-go city traffic.

Common Uses

Road trip planning, commute cost tracking, vehicle comparison, budget planning.
