Understanding the Inputs
Start Date
The beginning date of the period you want to measure. For counting days between January 1, 2024 and June 30, 2024, enter 01/01/2024 as the start. The calculator counts all days from this date up to (but not including) the end date.
How to find it: Find the start date on contracts (start of lease, employment start), project plans (kickoff date), travel itineraries (departure), billing periods (statement start), or loan documents (origination date).
Why it matters: The start date anchors the calculation. The difference between any two dates changes completely if the start date shifts. For example, the days between 01/01/2024 and 01/31/2024 (30 days) is different from 01/02/2024 to 01/31/2024 (29 days).

The ending date of the period. For the same example of January 1 to June 30, 2024, enter 06/30/2024 as the end. The result shows exactly how many days, weeks, months, and years pass between the start and end dates.
How to find it: The end date comes from the same source as the start: contract expiration dates, project deadlines, lease end dates, travel return dates, payment due dates, or warranty expiration.
Why it matters: The end date defines the full extent of the period. A later end date gives a larger difference. For legal purposes (like how many days until a contract expires), the end date is legally binding and must be entered exactly as written.
